    THREE MONTHS of “shuddhikaran (purification)” for parents, intercourse at a time decided by planetary configurations, complete abstinence after the baby is conceived, and procedural and dietary regulations.
    According to the Garbh Vigyan Sanskar project of the RSS’s health wing Arogya Bharati, this is what is needed for a woman to deliver an “uttam santati” — a perfect, “customised child”.
    Speaking to The Sunday Express, top office-bearers associated with this ambitious programme said it was launched in Gujarat over a decade ago, and taken up at the national level in 2015. Today, the project, assisted by the Sangh’s education wing Vidya Bharati, has around 10 branches in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, with more units to come up soon in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
    “Our main objective is to make a samarth Bharat (strong India) through uttam santati. Our target is to have thousands of such babies by 2020,” said Dr Karishma Mohandas Narwani, national convener of the project.
    According to the office-bearers, the project was inspired by Germany, which they claimed had “resurrected itself by having such signature children through Ayurvedic practices within two decades after World War II”.
    “The parents may have lower IQ, with a poor educational background, but their baby can be extremely bright. If the proper procedure is followed, babies of dark-skinned parents with lesser height can have fair complexion and grow taller,” said Dr Hitesh Jani, national convener, Arogya Bharati.
    Jani, a veteran RSS swayamsevak who also heads the panchkarma department at Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar, said the procedure to get an “uttam santati or a customised child is mentioned in the (Hindu) shastras”.
    The project claims to have ensured the delivery of 450 “customised babies” so far, and its target is to have a Garbh Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra, a facilitation centre, in every state by 2020.
    According to Narwani, Arogya Bharati has held several seminars and counselling sessions on Garbh Vigyan Sanskar in Delhi and Mumbai, and smaller cities such as Udupi in Karnataka, Kasaragod in Kerala, and Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
    The next counselling sessions were scheduled to be held in Kolkata over the weekend, followed by Rohtak and Gurgaon in Haryana, she said.
    Narwani claimed that the project “is not an intervention in the natural process” but based on the principles of Ayurveda.
    “Ayurveda has all the details about how we can get the desired physical and mental qualities of babies. IQ is developed during the sixth month of pregnancy. If the mother undergoes specific procedures, like what to eat, listen and read, the desired IQ can be achieved. Thus, we can get a desired, customised baby,” she said.
    The office-bearers claimed that this procedure “repairs genes” by ensuring that genetic defects are not passed on to babies.
    Dr Ashok Kumar Varshney, an RSS pracharak for over 30 years and national organising secretary of Arogya Bharati, said that apart from the university in Jamnagar, two other institutions have incorporated Garbh Vigyan Sanskar in their curriculum: Children’s University in Gandhinagar and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi University in Bhopal.
    Varshney said the project was inspired by the advice a senior RSS ideologue received over 40 years ago in Germany.
    “He was told that it was due to a woman called ‘Mother of Germany’. When he met her and asked about this resurrection, she told him, ‘you have come from India, have you not heard of Abhimanyu (the son of Arjuna in the epic Mahabharata)?’ She told him that the new generation in Germany was born through Garbh Sanskar and that is why the country is so developed,” said Varshney.
    In the Mahabharata, Abhimanyu is described as having learnt the art of breaking the “chakravyuh” (a circular trap) inside the womb of his mother as his father narrated the method.
    “The shastras prescribe a specific time to have intercourse for pregnancy. Doctors tell couples when they should become intimate on the basis of their horoscope and planetary configurations… Once the baby is conceived, you cannot have intimacy. It is suicidal for the mother and the baby,” claimed Varshney.
    Narwani and Jani hold Bachelor’s degrees in ayurveda, medicine and surgery, and Varshney obtained a PhD in biochemistry from Allahabad University in 1986.
    According to Jani, the project is conducted in two parts — before and after pregnancy. “The first part involves ‘nadi shuddhi’ (purification of energy channels) and ‘deh shuddhi’ (purification of body) for 90 days. During this period, we purify the male’s sperm and the female’s egg. The new egg and sperm thus developed will not have genetic defects,” he claimed.
    After the baby is conceived, he said, stress is placed on “proper food” for the mother during pregnancy.
    “Calcium is required in the third month when bones develop; therefore, she should take milk and related products. Brain is developed in the fifth month, hence ghee is required. When eyes develop during the sixth or seventh month, she needs vitamin A,” Varshney said.
    But that’s not all. “If the mother chants shlokas and mantras, it helps in the mental growth of the baby… if she leads such a life, there will be no labour pain and the baby will gain up to 300g more weight.”

    My mother was against the idea at first because she thought it was perverse and a bit like the Nazis and their eugenics program. The RSS also wanted them to never have sex again once I was born because, for some bizarre reason, it would be 'suicidal'. She only agreed when the RSS convinced her that their child would be bullied and a failure in life if he was not a Uttam Santati (perfect customized child).

    Their sacrifices paid off when I was born. Nurses fainted on seeing such a beautiful baby. The doctor who delivered me shot himself in the head because he didn't want to deliver inferior babies after me. Everyone in Meerut loved me. Soon a Hollywood agent came and signed me for movies after some accent training.

    I have become a star and it's all thanks to the RSS and their Garbh Vigyan Sanskar project. My father called me last week and told me that 'La La Land is fucking overrated garbage made for white people to remove the black roots of jazz'. I think he's depressed from not having sex for 36 years".

    But now they are using the third instrument which is overt pressure and they have made NDTV an example.
    They (government) will divide the media and use one section of it to defame the rest of the media.
    Recently I came to know about the persecution of Rajasthan Patrika and financial losses inflicted on it. But this was not reported by the New Delhi-based newspapers at all.
    We have not reacted collectively to the way RTI has been choked. Raj Kamal Jha of Indian Express told me that government is giving partial information in response to RTIs and that too at the level of first or second appeal.
    The government is using social media to spread lies and abuse against anybody it doesn’t like. We need to counter that on social media because Modi has an entire team in his PMO headed by Heran Joshi. His only job is to keep PM informed as to what is happening on social media.
    Just like terrorists, publicity is also the oxygen of bonded ministers. Boycott their meetings, functions and conferences of the people who are not worth being ministers. This is a government of two and a half persons.
    ·There is no country in the world in which official pronouncements are given as much prominence and space as they get here. These items should get published in the classified page in the form of advertisements. And in fact, you should republish what Alt News and other such sites are excavating instead of republishing tweets and use the techniques of these new websites.
    Redouble the work which is annoying the government. News is what the government wants to hide; everything else is propaganda.
    Within a year, it is going to become impossible to acquire and disseminate information through mainstream channel or media. We must turn to youngsters and experts who have the mastery of hacking and defying censorship and use the Internet creatively to acquire information and disseminate information.

    In what could be held to be the most vitriolic attack by the judiciary upon the Central Government in the last 3 years, the High Court at Calcutta mounted a scathing criticism of the Central Government due to it's complete indifference towards the issue of appointment of new Judges to the said High Court, despite its strength having gone down to below 50% of its sanctioned strength of 72 Judges, while it is further scheduled to go down to an occupancy rate of a mere 33% (a vacancy of a whopping 66% of its total strength, which is by far, the worst among the major High Courts of the country, having a sanctioned strength of more than 60 Judges) by February, 2018. Directing that a copy of the order passed in connection with the anticipatory bail application of actor Bikram Chatterjee in the Sonika Singh Chauhan death case, to be sent to the Hon'ble Law Minister of the Union Government, the High Court categorically stated that the politeness of the Division Bench of the High Court "may not be understood as weakness on its part to be firm..." and that, further dilly-dallying on the part of the Central Government regarding the issue of appointment of Judges to the High Court at Calcutta "... would certainly be viewed seriously as interference in the course of administration of justice and followed by appropriate action as authorized in law."
    This is probably the first time in the recent past that a Government has been indirectly accused of causing 'interference in the administration of justice' and the same is indeed, a grave allegation to contend with for a democratically installed Government.

    গতকাল যাদবপুরে কী হয়েছিল?

    মিলনদার ক্যান্টিনে প্রতিদিন সকালেই একটা জমাটি আড্ডা হয়। বিভিন্ন বিভাগের গবেষক, অধ্যাপক, ছাত্রছাত্রীরা থাকেন। রাজনৈতিক, সামাজিক নানা রকম বিষয়ে গল্পগুজব হয়।

    কাল সকাল দশটায় দু'জন বহিরাগত হিন্দুত্ববাদী ছেলে মিলনদায় আসে। প্রসঙ্গত, এরা দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই সকাল ৯টা থেকে রাত পর্যন্ত আর্টস ফ্যাকাল্টিতে ঘুরে বেড়ায়। সাম্প্রদায়িক মন্তব্য করে। একাধিকবার ডে স্কলার এবং হস্টেলের আবাসিকদের সঙ্গে এদের বচসা হয়েছে।

    গতকাল ক্যান্টিন বসে ছিল অর্ক ভাদুড়ি, সঞ্জীব প্রামানিক, রাজর্ষি। ছিলেন কয়েকজন অধ্যাপক ও প্রেসের কর্মী পার্থদা। কথা হচ্ছিল গোরু রক্ষার নামে মানুষ খুন এবং উত্তরপ্রদেশে অক্সিজেনের অভাবে শিশুখুনের ঘটনা নিয়ে। আচমকাই সঞ্জীবের দিকে তেড়ে আসে ওই হিন্দুবাদীরা। তাকে খানকির ছেলে, শুয়োরের বাচ্চা, কমিউনিস্ট গুন্ডা বলে খিস্তি করে। ধাক্কাধাক্কি করে। বাকিরা রুখে দাঁড়ালে তাদের উপরেরও চড়াও হয়। বয়স্ক পার্থদাও ছাড় পাননি। ওরা বলতে থাকে, দলিত আর বাঙালীর বাচ্চারা জেনে রাখ, তোদের মায়েরা বেশ্যা, যে জামাটা আমরা পরে আছি, তার অর্ধেক দামের জামা কেনার হিম্মত তোদের হবে না।

    একতরফা মার খাওয়া যাদবপুরের স্বভাব নয়। প্রতিরোধ হয়। ওরা কেটে পড়ে। তবে যাওয়ার আগে হুমকি দেয়, যাদবপুরে ওরা বাদুড়িয়ার দশগুণ হিংসা ছড়াবে।

    আক্রান্তরা সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই ভিসি, রেজিস্ট্রার-সহ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষকে চিঠি দিয়ে অভিযোগ জানায়।

    আজ কী হল?

    দুপুর একটা। সায়েন্স আর্টসের মোড়ে ওই দুজনকে কালকের ঘটনা নিয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করেন সোসিওলজির সুজয়দা। উত্তরে শুরু হয় গালিগালাজ, সাম্প্রদায়িক হুমকি। বারবার বলা হয়, যাদবপুরে সম্প্রীতি নষ্ট হয় এমন আচরণ মেনে নেওয়া হবে না। উত্তরে আবার গালাগালি। এবার, নিতান্ত বাধ্য হয়ে গর্জে ওঠে যাদবপুর। শ'খানেক ছাত্র গণরোষ সম্বরণ করে ওদের ইউনিভার্সিটির গার্ডদের হাতে তুলে দেয়। ছাত্ররা ঘিরে ধরে নিয়ে যায় অরবিন্দ ভবন। রাস্তাতেও গণরোষ সম্বরণ করা হয়।

    অরবিন্দ ভবনে ওরা ভিসি, রেজিস্ট্রারকে অপমান করে। তারপর সকলের দাবি মেনে পুলিশে খবর দেওয়া হয়। এক নম্বর গেটের বাইরে পুলিশের গাড়ি আসে। আবারও গণরোষের কোনও প্রকাশ না করে ওদেরর তলে দেওয়া হয় পুলিশের হাতে।'

    "I have never been to Kerala or West Bengal. I don’t know what exactly is going on there. But if you ask any BJP or RSS worker they will say that in Kerala, there are many religious conversions taking place. They will also say that there is much violence against Hindus. It’s been like this for ages. They will say the same for West Bengal too since it was ruled by the left for decades. If you look at it from the RSS standpoint, their biggest enemy is the left front. Though leaning a bit towards the left, Congress too is their contender, left still remains their prime rival since RSS is extreme rightist.

    If you go through the WhatsApp messages floating around in BJP groups, you will come to know about how badly they have portrayed Kerala. They are spreading rumours of Hindus being attacked and many temples being vandalized. Now they are asserting that Hindus are not allowed to perform Durga Pooja in West Bengal. Though I know it’s untrue since I have many friends from there.

    Without knowing the truth behind this we, Indians, believe all these things and that’s the problem. This WhatsApp has created a lot of abhorrence between the communities. Imagine I am getting a message in Whatsapp stating “Hindus are in a bloodbath in Kerala” along with a picture, wouldn’t I believe at the first glance?"
