    Facts in Brief

    Singur is in Hugli District of West Bengal. The West Bengal Government has 'decided' to give 997 acres of land to the Tata Group. The proposed factory will manufacture a car worth Rs. 1 lakh. Land acquisition has been made by the State Government for 'public purpose'. Compensation has been offered. Most have refused to give up their land despite subsequent hike in the rates of compensation. Government started the process of physical takeover of the land claimed to be handed over to it from the 1 December 2006. On 2 December, police resorted to unrestrained violence in the adjoining villages. The local TMC MLA and Medha Patkar was physically 'removed' from the area.

    An Urgent Appeal

    Giving consent or facing coercion, in case of Singur, has become the two sides of the same coin -- both the sides loaded heavily with threat, repression and violence. In this backdrop will those intoxicated with power kindly note that there is no greatness in letting 20000 armed police loose amidst a few villages? Have they started believing that the unarmed have no democratic rights? Have the images of Jalianwala Bagh faded?

    The Government of West Bengal with its police, is behaving like a land-grabbing promoter-mafia duo. It is spreading terror and trying to force almost 60% of unwilling individual land-owners to accept compensation and part with almost 50% of the remaining land at Singur. This, notwithstanding the Government's lie that 913 acres, that is 92% of the land has already been 'voluntarily' handed over to the State, which has issued acquisition notice in August. Why else should the state need to send 20000 armed personnel for so little land? Moreover the question of 'voluntary' handing over of prime agricultural land is a joke, a misnomer in the face of the Government's unilateral decision of acquisition. The Government is dispossessing land owners of their private property and following it up by branding them as encroachers and trespassers.

    The Government is openly justifying its brutish and bizarre actions stating that they are governed by the market -- Tatas they explain, after all, 'wanted' that specific piece of land at Singur. Obviously the overlord can cut its fiefdom into pieces and the taker will choose the cake -- leftist bhudaan movement, of a different kind.

    The farmers here work on two to five crops a year. There are 26 mini-tubewells, 2 deep tubewells and a DVC canal for irrigation. No wonder they refuse to sell there 'mother'. It is shocking to hear that LF leaders say that the womenfolk here, would be able to work as menials in the residential apartments which will come up in the vicinity when the factory is setup. Is this the paradigm of development for the future?

    The Information and Police Minister, like his distant predecessor -- Goebbels -- justifies police atrocities at Singur as 'self defense'. Earlier in the day, however, he had stated characteristically that 'nothing' has happened at Singur. The boastful challenging words "Who will stop us?" with a smug smile on camera, reminds one of a moustached German of yesteryears, though his economic pursuits are being compared by some of his party comrades with a Russian and a Chinese of not so distant past. No wonder this 'International Figure' is bragging -- "We are 235, they are 35" -- in spite of a 50-50 break up of polled votes in the last General Elections. Let us not talk about the single largest chunk of non-voters. When faced with an awkward question from a journalist on camera, he evades, turns away visibly embarrassed, but not before asking threateningly as to what paper the journalist represents. Siddhartha Sankar Roy, the Congress Chief Minister was similarly vindictive and arrogant in the '70's -- before he was dumped. History goes full circle -- Buddha, the Avatar, reverts to his purvashram, Siddhartha.

    CPI(M) leaders helped the police on ground-zero to identify the houses of those who have not given up their land. The law keepers selectively broke into these homes, assaulted even the elderly, women and children, torched hay stacks. Some TV channels did a great service by airing footage of the merciless beatings resorted to. It was shocking to witness over TV, hundreds of policemen trampling over crops and human rights. Such brutality and excess reminded one of our colonial past. Has the Left Front chosen to carry on with the British legacy?

    Shamefully it is the same Left Front which had once tried to empower rural Bengal. Whither land reforms? What about the pledges? Today empowered by the Black Commando, Rapid Action Force, Combat Force and regular police force it is going for the throats of the hapless tillers. What else can be termed as the arrogance of power?

    Yet another shame is the role of the 'legendary' Ananda Bazar Patrika Group. We are in favour of the freedom of press. But the freedom of the press-owner should not compromise the freedom of the readers. The readers have the right to know and the ABP has chosen to mislead. Is this what freedom of press is all about? We categorically state that the LF and the ABP, old foes, are now working in partnership. We denounce the role of ABP and call upon all those to whom freedom of press is dear, to suitably denounce it.

    Will we be mere bystanders? We must warn well in advance that one should not look at Singur in isolation. It is not just about paving the way for further acquisition in Nandigram, Haripur, Barasat, Bhangar, Baruipur which, and many more, are all on the anvil. Beware, the hound-like state repression is being unleashed. We should not allow this juggernaut to roll. We must condemn and protest. Wherever we are, whoever we are, irrespective of party affiliations or non-partisan positions. We must organise and/or participate in protests. In whatever manner we deem fit.

    A fact finding team of MASUM, consisting Kirity Roy, Biplab Mukherjee, Abhijit Datta, Goutam Sarkar and Sabitabrata Ghole done the fact finding after the police attrocities upon the villagers and civil rights activists. They started the mission from 4.30 pm on 2nd December and concluded it on 3rd of December 4.00 am. In between the team visited the various police stations and government hospitals where protestors were lodged.
    We have made a point tht two minor girls were booked under several charges same as other, and lodged in Chandannagar police station with other women activists, in course of production they were not produced before the ACJM and released from police station itself under 151Cr. P.C with help of a local advocate, working as a tout of the local police.
    Just now on 4th december, at nearly 12.00 noon, we have recieved the information that noted activist Ms. Medha Patkar with Ms. Anuradha Talwar of Right to Food network were forcibly resisted to enter Singur, though in any case, they were not violating 144 as they were only three inside an auto rickshaw and susequently put into a garage forcibly outside the district. Opposition leader Ms. Mamata Banerjee started her indefinite hunger strike in front of Metro Cinema hall from 11 A.M.
    MASUM is going to present a complaint with a petition before the ChiefJustice of Kolakata High Court today on 4th of december at 2.00 P.M with all fact findings and relevant information, we gathered during the occurance and our mission.

    Now, Singur, an obscure place in District: Hoogly, West Bengal hijacked the National limelight for the resistance shown by the agrarian populace of the place against forceful land gabbing of the State administration. The local people had been building up the resistance since long in the area where a TATA group decided to establish a motor vehicle factory in the acquired land in Singur. The local resisting force got some intellectuals and student activists by their side for this cause. They were camping in Beraberi, Ghaser Veri and nearby villages for resisting forcible acquiring of their own land, many areas of which are fertile and multi crop producing lands. The noted social activist, Ms. Medha Patkar was also present to show her solidarity with the movement and a public tribunal was organized few days back and she took active participation in it.
    The state government deployed a large number of police contingent and Rapid Action Force (RAF), near about 5000, over there, and is continuing the force deployment in the area. The government already promulgated the prohibitory order u/s 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.) in Singur. When the government officials started barbing the land on 2nd November 2006 at about 10 a. m., the local villagers tried to resist the attempt of the government by mobilizing the masses. In due course of time, violence broke out and police force and RAF resorted to widespread lathi-charge and firing tear-gas shells and rubber bullets. It has been reported that the police entered in to the adjoining villages and mercilessly beat and physically assaulted the villagers indiscriminately showing no respect to the women, old people and children. Number of people got severe injuries due to police brutality. The police entered in to the houses and ventured into the roof top and beat up unarmed peaceful people with batons causing bloodsheds.

    Singur is in highlight already due to ?Leftist? government?s transition by calling multi-national TATA group for constructing their car factory over fertile land. The opposition political groups inside and outside the legislative house and several socio-political groups in street, had been protesting this action of the government of acquiring land from the peasants who were not at all willing to part with their land under any situation. The marginalized agrarian community largely with the protesting group, but the state government has decided to acquire the said land by any mean even by applying crude physical force and state violence and terror.     ক্রমশ:

  • In course of acquiring of land forcefully the police arrested nearly more than 60 people comprising women and even children on 2.12.2006. Among them, Jhuma Patra, daughter of Mr. Ashok Patra of village Ghaser Veri, Singur, 12 years old and a student of class V in Naraharipara Primary School and Soma Dhara daughter of Sanyasi Dhara of same village, a minor were also arrested. The fact finding team of Masum visited the detainees at Chandannagar Police Station. Altogether 18 women were detained in Chandannagar Police Station by the police authority under two police cases being Singur Police Case nos 150 & 151 dated 2.12.2006. Both the cases the complainant was Officer-in-Charge of Singur Police Station, Mr. Priya Brata Baxi. In case no. 150, according to police version, 38 persons were arrested and among them 4 were admitted to government hospital. The police initiated the case under sections 147/148/149/186/188/447/332/333/353/325/307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) & 9(b) (2) of Indian Explosive Act (I.E. Act) with 9 W.B.M.P.O. Act. In the Case No. 151, ten people were injured and one police personnel also received injury. This case was registered under sections 147/148/149/188/323/353/307 of IPC and 9(b) (2) of I.E. Act.

    The Fact Finding Team of Masum visited Chuchura Hospital, chuchura Police Station and Chandannagar police station. During the visit, the team met arrested persons and the injured persons in police custody for getting the truth. According to the arrestees, they were unarmed and peaceful during the arrests. At the time of arrest no memo of arrest or inspection memo to the injured was ever prepared by the arresting police in compliance of the mandatory directions of Supreme Court in D.K. Basu judgment reported in AIR 1999 SC 610. The police personnel were fully armed and during the arrest and had severely manhandled and brutally beaten the protestors. The Fact Finding team also visited Chinsura General Hospital, where four of them were detained with severe injuries. One of them was Dilip Das who bled profusely for hours without any medical assistance and got eight stitches in his scalp after many hours of his arrest.

    In the meantime, Ms. Medha Patkar was arrested with seven other companions and she was manhandled during her arrest and verbal abuse was made by the police personnel, there were no arrangement of adequate police forces to effect the arrest. Later her companions, Mr. Dipankar Chakraborty, Mr. Sumit Chowdhury and others were released on furnishing personal release bonds (PR Bond) at Chinsura Police Station. But Ms. Medha was whisked away in a police car and the car was moved towards Kolkata, where she was in the car whole night. The police announced that she was not arrested. Restricting the movement of a free citizen is an arrest and the police of Singur P.S informed her that she was arrested. Her detention and restricting her free movement was out and out illegal act of the police who got enough patronization from the administration and government to defeat the rule of law in order to achieve the narrow end of the administration and virtually putting the entire democratic system into a ludicrous and farcical one. It was utter violation spirit of Indian Constitution particularly Art 19 and 21.     ক্রমশ:

  • At Chandannagar Police Station at 10 pm, the fact finding team found 18 women lying in the front office. Names of the arrestees were:--

    Sl. No. 14 Soma Dhara daughter of Sanyasi Dhara of Singur aged about 14 years and Sl. No. 16 Jhuma daughter of Alok Patra, a student of class five of Narasinghapur School were amongst the arrestees lying in the floor of office of Chandannagar PS. When asked, the duty police officer and Officer-in-Charge of said Chandannagar PS said that under the order of senior officers, all these persons were kept in detention at this PS though all the arrested people are not connected with any offence of Chandannagar area. Though in Chinsura, the District Head Quarter, there was a women cell of police, but they did not put the female prisoners there. While talking with the female prisoners, they jointly told the Fact Finding team, that they were mercilessly beaten by the police and police used with abusive language. They leveled serious allegations that many of the female arrestees were manhandled molested and sexually abused by the male men in uniform of police. The women prisoners asked the team to supply one bottle of drinking water as they could not drink the water supplied by police because the bottle was so dirty that it was unfit for human consumption. Not a single Memo of arrest was prepared against them.     ক্রমশ:

  • Later, on 3/12/2006 in the morning hours, the police could secure the release of two minor girls, namely Miss Soma & Miss Jhuma under their set up legal practioners on PR Bond (Personal Release Bond) in a case under section 151 of Cr.P.C. The rest of the female arrestees were produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chandannagar and they were given into judicial remand till 8th December 2006.
    Our Fact Finding team also visited District Hospital at Chinsura. The team met
    1.Mr. Dilip Das -44 years
    2.Mr. Mrityunjoy Patra- 52 years
    3.Mr. Tapan Batabyal -53 years
    4.Mr. Bilas Sarkar ? 26 years
    All were kept in prison ward with armed police guard in the hospital. The team managed to talk with the under trial prisoners there. The team found Mr Dilip Das with bandage over his head and the injury with 8 stitches; he was lying in the bed in critical condition. He informed us that the police inflicted injury on his head and even after receiving serious bleeding injury over his head at about 11am, police did not take him to any doctor for treatment. Putting him in a police car he was brought at Chinsura Hospital at about 1.30 pm alongwith other co-injured arrested persons. Only after about two and half hours in police custody he got first aid. Profuse bleeding from his injured head took place by this time, as stated other inmates of that ward.
    One police officer came to this prison ward and threatened all these four people to sign in the respective Memo of Arrest, but they refused because some paragraphs were kept blank in the memo, mainly the time of arrest.

    When the team talked with Mr. Mrityunjoy Patra, he showed his injured right leg and his back. Mr Tapan Batabyal lying in a bed with big haematoma both right and left legs. Mr. Bilas Sarkar, one energetic youth with long hare showed his injured left shoulder, lacerated injuries and swelling over on his different parts of the body.

    Our Fact Finding team then rushed to Chinsura police station where we found all total 10 people, all are the villagers of Beraberi, PS ? Singur, were kept in the lock-up. Their names were ?

  • All those Under Trial Prisoners showed injury marks over their body caused by lathi (baton) charge. They were arrested at about 4pm at Singur and put in Chuchura lock-up after 8 pm. About four hours they were forced to sit in a prison van.

    Scanning the entire incident at Singur on 2.12.2006 that shook and shocked the conscience of the democratic people, it can be safely said that the human rights of the people were grossly violated. The police administration swung into barbaric violent actions ignoring and blatantly violating legal procedures and constitutional rights of the people with direct encouragement and support from the highest administration. The police have set the democratic system into an arrogant desire of the tyranny. By this process, all legal procedures and rule of law were put into the state of mockery.

    The date and time of arrest was not shown correctly to avoid of recording illegal detention. We can not say that it is the plan / fault of Singur police officials only, because district and state level high police officials are in close touch with the every tit-bits of police action. The police had shown no respect to the life and property of the people of the country. The entire picture demonstrated as if the police had been fighting in a foreign land against the enemy.

    It is the scheme of the police regulation that the police must behave with the people with humane face. Rudeness, harshness and brutality are forbidden under regulation no. 33 of Police Regulations of Bengal 1943.

    The mandatory directions of the Supreme Court in D.K. Basu judgment (AIR 1997 SC 610) have been shown scant respect by the state police force. All the arrestees were produced before ACJM court at Chandannagar on 3.12.2006. We are sorry to observe that while dealing with Singur episode, the criminal justice administration showed partisan stand to save the violators in uniform.

    The children were arrested and kept in police lock up with other inmates and they were released on the next day on furnishing personal bond under total violations of the procedure of Juvenile Justice Act.

    The police exerted excessive brutal force in a revengeful manner on the peasants and villagers, action of which is the wildest nightmare in any civilised society. From the behaviour of the police and the government aftermath, it is not at all evident that a democratically elected system is on the run; instead it looks like a regime run by a tyrannic monarchy. Police, civil administration act like henchmen of Tata group. Even in conducting arrest the police have not followed the provisions enumerated under sections 46(2) / 130(3) of Cr.P.C.

    The citizens of a free country like India have constitutional right to assemble peacefully and express their views and opinions on any subject and right to agitate peacefully.

    By this process, the judiciary dealing with the police cases arising out of Singur incident has been threatening to become a mere executive state agency forgetting its pivotal role at the time of crisis, to be unbiased, neutral and justice oriented; the attending Judicial Magistrate toed the line of the police and without applying judicial mind ordered the custody of all arrested persons including the innocent women only considering the nomenclature of the penal code on the face of the complaint. The judiciary has failed to live up when it was the most urgent demand of the situation and turned its head away when the law of the land was flouted and abused nakedly by the state administration and the police.
    Several International Covenants and International Laws have been shown scant regard by the Left ruled State administration and the police. To be specific, we can draw United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development (1986) where it has been unambiguously narrated the definition of Development in Article 1(2) of the declaration implies: The human right to development also implies the full realisation of the right of peoples to self-determination, which includes, subject to the relevant provisions of both International Covenants on human rights, the exercise of their inalienable right to full sovereignty over all their natural wealth and resources and the UN Declaration on the Right to Development (1986) -- Article 2 (1) -- The human person is the central subject of development and should be the active participant and beneficiary of the right to development.
    Never it ever looked the government for a bit of moment paused and considered the human person has any value in its agenda. Gun tottering, lathi wielding 6000 strong armed forces have made Singur a battle field where a villager has no value.
    Regardless of what happened at Singur on 2.12.2006, it is not clear actually what the government is really going to do. There is no transparency in taking the land by the government, at what price the government is giving land to the Industrialists, what should be the actual valuation of the so called acquired land, what will be fate of the peasants who are solely dependant of the agricultural activity, how the unwilling peasants to give up land will be dealt with, nothing is clear. If anything is done, it has to be done peacefully and with transparency keeping the rights and the interest of the peasants intact.     শেষ

    দমুকে একটাই প্রশ্ন - টিপিক্যাল সি পি এম ছিঁচকেমো মানে কি? শুধু সি পি এম-এর সমর্থকেরাই ছিঁচকেমো করে এবং সকলেই করে? এতটা জেনারেলাইজ? যে ছিঁচকেমো করেছে তার আর তোমার এই অনর্থক সিপিএম-বিরোধিতা (এই পোস্টটা অত্যন্ত যুক্তিহীন সেবিষয়ে কোন সন্দেহ নেই) একই পর্যায়ের।

  • It's unfortunate that at the end of the day, the Singur issue didn't produce anything other than polemical posturing, self-righteous grand-standing and various hues of one-upmanship. I don't know whether the day has ended or not, but the hope to find a way through the bewildering maze of pros and cons has ended definitely. Because the interventions which were required, were probably beyond our political DNA. Politically, we are uncomfortable to live with situations which call for serious logic, careful analysis and dirtying our hands with reams of data. We are much more comfortable with a "black-and-white" world. It serves the purpose of the opposition and the Government. I would presume at this point of time the Government and all hues of opposition must be relieved because the battle is now back in the familiar turf. Interestingly, there's almost muted whisper against the Medical Kit Scandal, which is probably the biggest corruption issue in the post-Left Front West Bengal. It'll interesting to analyze the cherry-picking of political issues in our political landscape. And the dynamics of our political debates, where the endgame is always either a simple silence or polarizing big bangs. Let's thrive in Nothingness.

    ঘাটালে আর হুগলিতে, বড় হবার মুখে দেখেছি ঐ এলাকার কিছু সিপিএম পার্টির লোকেদের। এরা অ্যাকটিভ ক্যাডার, ইন্যাকটিভ পার্টি-নিবেদিত প্রাণ, ওয়ার্ড কমিশনার, এই ধরণের লোক। বিশেষ তফাৎ দেখি নি। নাম করব না, কিন্তু সেই লোকগুলোকে ব্যান্দেল হুগলি চুঁচড়ো এলাকায় অনেক অনুচিৎ কাজ করে যেতে দেখেছি, তারা আজও করে, উদ্ধত ভাবে করে। এবং, আগের পোস্টে আমি যে যে কথা বলেছি, সেই ধরণের মানসিকতা এদের প্রত্যেকের মধ্যে আমি দেখেছি।

    পাড়ার ছেলে হিসেবে আমি তাদের কাউকে কাউকে একটু বেশিই চিনি। তারা পার্টি অফিসে দিনের অধিকাংশ সময় কাটায় কারণ তাদের দ্বারা আর কিছু হয়ে ওঠে নি। পড়াশোনা, চাকরি-বাকরি, ব্যবসা। মোটামুটি এই রকমই তাদের ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ড।

    যাক। এর বাইরে দেখেছি সেলিব্রিটি সিপিএমদের। টিভিতে। তাঁরা নেতা। মন্ত্রী। ঐ, ভুল স্বীকার না-করার ব্যাপারটা তাঁদের ক্ষেত্রেও কিন্তু খাটে। তাঁদের অনেকেই সৎ। রাজনৈতিকভাবে, ব্যক্তিগতভাবে। অমান্য করব না।

    কংগ্রেস, তৃণমূল, বিজেপি, এদের কোনও পার্টি ক্যাডারকে আমি কখনও চোখে দেখি নি। জানি না হুগলি শহরে এরা এক্সিস্ট করে কিনা। পার্টি অফিস দেখেছি কি? বোধ হয় দেখেছি, খেয়াল করতে পারছি না। তৃণমূল বিধায়কের নাম জানি, তাঁকে চোখেও দেখি নি, যেমন রূপচাঁদ পাল কি নরেন দে কেও চোখে দেখি নি। এঁদের কারুর সম্বন্ধেই কোনও কমেন্ট করতে পারব না। সাধারণ মানুষের অনেক দূরে থাকেন এঁরা।

    দময়ন্তী, ভিডিও পাবে না। ১৪৪ ধারার জন্য সাংবাদিকদের ছবি তুলতে দেওয়া হয় নি। তবে কারুবাসনা হয় তো সাহায্য করতে পারে, ইটিভি থেকে ফুটেজ জোগাড় করে দেবার ব্যাপারে। তবে সে ফুটেজে কিছু নেই। এইমাত্র অর্কুট থেকে একটা লিঙ্ক পেলাম, খুলে দেখি নি, আমার অফিসে নেট কানেকশন স্লো, এখানে সিঙ্গুরের ওপর একটা ভিডিও আছে। দেখে জানিও।

    the irony of it is, you did not escape from this entire posturing yourself either, which has been little too obvious from your post :-).
    there are political situations and there are singled out political incidences, and at certain times, certain incidences do ask you to decide which side you are on, or atleast which side you are not on. at those very points, it becomes black and white. obviously there are not so black and white areas that precedes these points. being a fence-sitter is appealing, since it gives the wide view, but at the end of the day, it doesnot serve much of a purpose, to oneself or to a community in general.

  • বাংলায় এই দলের সরকার, লেজভারী নেতা এবং ক্যাডারবাহিনী। তাই এদের নিয়ে অনেক সঙ্গত রাগও। কিন্তু সবাই বাংলার লোক তো নয়। আমি এমন রাজ্যে, এমন পরিস্থিতি থেকে আসি, যেখানে এই দল এখনও নিপীড়িতের দল এবং তারা ছাড়া কেউ আর আমাদের জন্যে কথা কয়নিকো। মার খেয়েও বলেছে, ভোটে জেতার আশা না রেখেও বলেছে। কারন ভেতরের নীতিটা, যেটাকে ওদিককার নীতিহীনতার চেয়ে আলাদা। আজ সিঙ্গুরে সেই নীতিটাই নেই বলে দেওয়া যায় সোজাসুজি, কিন্তু অতো সোজাও নয় সবকিছু। নীতি অনুযায়ী ইংরিজীকে সরানো হয়েছিলো, আর তাতে অনেকেই এগিয়েছে বহুদুর, কিন্তু কোন তো কারন ছিলো যেজন্যে SUCI কে ইংরিজী ফেরানোর কথা বলতে হয়েছে। তারা তো আর রিটিশ সাম্রাজ্যবাদের দালাল নয়। আজ টাটার জন্যে (তাদেরই এখন উচিত একটু ভালো প্ল্যান করে 10-20% বাদ দিয়ে কাজ চালিয়ে নেয়া) যখন সরকার এতো risk নিচ্ছে তার কি কোন কারন নেই যেটা আপনার আমার পক্ষে ভালো ? শুধু ITর ক্যাম্পাস এর জন্যে বসে আছে যে ছাত্র তাকে গিয়ে জিগ্গেস করুন। তা না হলে শুধু ইংরিজী ই পড়িয়ে যেতে হবে অনন্তকাল।

    কাল যেখান থেকে ছেরে গেছিলাম সেখান থেকে আজকের লেখা ঝোকা অনেক দুর এগিয়ে গেছে। নতুন করে আজকের বাংলা খবরের কাগজের রিপোর্টিং টেনে আনার কোনো দরকার আছে বলে মনে হচ্ছে না, কারন সরকার সমর্থক বা বিরোধি রা সবাই সে সব পড়েছেন এবং নিজেদের মত যুক্তি খাড়া করে রেখেছেন।

    btw, পুরো context এর বাইরে একটা কথা, গুরু নামক বাংলা ব্লগের সাইট আমাকে দেখিয়েছিল, কারন এটা নাকি বেশ ভাল অন্য ব্লগ গুলোর চেয়ে। কিন্তু কালকের থেকে আজকে অব্দি লেখা, সব পোস্ট গুলো পড়ে মনে হলো, এখানেই পিঠ চাপড়ানি ব্যপার টা সবচেয়ে বেশি। ব্যপার টা যেন "আমাদের সাইট", এমন একটা দাদাগিরি মার্কা ব্যপার।

    তো দাদা রা, এটাকে তো membership by invitation করে রাখতে পারেন।

    তাপসী ঘটনায় দেবু মালিককে আরেকটি রাজা-উজিরকে ঢাল করা বোড়ে বলেই এখনও পর্য্যন্ত মনে হচ্ছে। কিন্তু গতকাল সুহৃদ দত্তকে যেরকম টানা হ্যাঁচড়া করতে করতে সি বি আইয়ের লোকজনদের নিয়ে যেতে টিভিতে দেখিয়েছে, তাতে তিনিও সেই লুপে পড়লেন কি না কে জানে। আজকের খবর -

    সন্দেহভাজনেরা -
    ১) সুহৃদ বরণ দত্ত - সিঙ্গুর জোনাল কমিটির সম্পাদক, সাতাত্তর সালে পার্টিতে আসা। টাটার কারখানায় ইঁট, বালি, সিমেণ্ট, লোহা সাপ্লাইয়ের সিণ্ডিকেটের মধ্যে সিঙ্গুর সিণ্ডিকেট ইনিই চালাতেন বলে অভিযোগ।
    ২) দিবাকর দাস - দাপুটে কৃষক নেতা - ১৯৮৯ থেকে ২০০৪ অবধি সিঙ্গুরের জোনাল কমিটির সম্পাদক। হুগলির সাংসদ রূপচাঁদ পাল গোষ্ঠী ক্ষমতাসীন হলে এঁকে সরিয়ে রূপচাঁদ-প্রিয় সুহৃদবরণকে আনা হয়।
    ৩) দেবু মালিক - দিবাকর দাসের ছায়া সঙ্গী এবং সি পি আই এম কর্মী। পার্টি বদান্যতায় পাম্প হাউসে চাকরি। রাতের পাহারাদারেদের নিয়োগ করার দায়িত্ব এঁরই উপর ছিলো।
    ৪) সুবোধ কোলে - সক্রিয় সি পি আই এম কর্মী। দক্ষিণ বাজেমেলিয়ায় বাড়ি। পার্টি নেতা তপন মিত্রর জমিতে ভাগচাষ করে রাতে পাহারা দিতেন, ছেলে বিজয়ও পাহারার কাজ করে।
    ৫) মহাদেব সাঁতরা - সি পি আই এম কর্মী। সুবোধ কোলের পড়শী। এর জমির কিছু ভাগ টাটার কারখানায় গেছে।
    ৬) দিলীপ মালিক - সি পি আই এম কর্মী, আগে ভ্যান চালাতেন, এখন কি করেন কেউ ঠিক জানে না। তবে রাতে পাহারার কাজ করতেন।
    ৭) জয়দেব সাঁতরা - তৃণমূল কর্মী। মহাদেব সাঁতরার ভাই। এর নাম করেই একটি টিভি চ্যানেলে বিবৃতি দিয়েছিলেন দেবু মালিক।

    দেবু মালিক দিল্লিতে সি বি আই দপ্তরে লাই ডিটেক্টরের সামনে মহাদেব, দিলীপ, সুবোধ ও আরও দুজনের নাম বলেন, যাঁরা তাঁর সাথে মিলে এই খুন ঘটিয়েছিলো। সুহৃদের বয়ান থেকে জানা গেছে যে তাপসী খুনের পর ২৩শে ডিসেম্বরে পীযুষ আগরওয়ালের সিঙ্গুরস্থিত কোল্ড স্টোরেজে দুপুর থেকে সন্ধে অবধি মিটিং ও ক্লাস নেওয়া হয়। এই মিটিংএ সি বি আইয়ের সামনে কি বলতে হবে তার মহড়াও দেওয়া হয়েছিল বলে অনুমান।

    ...তাপসী মালিক তাহলে চম্পলা সর্দার হোলো না, যে নামটা কয়েক সহস্রবার এই তাপসীর নামোল্লেখের সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই অরিজিৎ করেছিলো। জানা নেই যে তা নিরপেক্ষ ভাবে আর দায় না নিয়েই করেছিলো কিনা .....

    বাইরে থেকে চার/পাঁচদিন পরে ফিরে আজ সকাল থেকে পাতা ঘাঁটতে ঘাঁটতে এখন অবধি লেগে গেলো। তাতে করে আরও বোধগম্য হোলো :
    ১) ১লা মে তারিখটা বা মে দিবসটা শুধু মাত্র একটি/দুটি থ্রেডেই আসে, বাকি জায়গাগুলোতে, অন্তত: ভাটে আসে না বা তার সাথে সংশ্লিষ্টই নয়।

    ২) আবারও জানলাম যদিও এটা বিলক্ষণ যে ভাটে দুর/সু/কু - বুদ্ধিজীবীরা ভাটান, নির্বুদ্ধিজীবীরা ভাটান না। ভুল করে দুয়েকবার ঢুকে পড়লে গুঁতো খান, নয়তো ফেল মারা ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের মত ফ্যাল ফ্যাল নয়নে ফেলিসিটেটেড ব্যক্তিবর্গের কাছে দীক্ষিত হয়ে ফেলোশিপ পরীক্ষার যোগ্যতাপ্রাপ্তির লিস্টির দিকে মুখ করে আকুল অপেক্ষায় কাল অতিবাহিত করেন।

    ৩) এও জানা গেলো যে সেই দিন উপলক্ষ্যে পোস্ট করা একটি পত্রিকায় ১৯৩৯এর মে মাসের সংখ্যায় প্রকাশিত সরোজ দত্তর "বর্তমান বুদ্ধিজীবীদের প্রতি" কবিতাটায়, যেটি আজও খুবই প্রযোজ্য বলেই মনে হয়, সেটিতে মাইকটা, থুড়ি, মেগাফোনটা প্রতিবেদকের ছিল, মূল লেখকের নয়।

    ৪) ইদানীং আর কতগুলিতে শুম্ভ-নিশুম্ভ তা গোনার কষ্ট না করেই জানলাম যে সিঙ্গুর বা নন্দীগ্রামের ক্ষেত্রে কদাচ না হলেও অন্তত: এই একটি ব্যাপারে 'খুড়ো' অরিজিৎএর অনুকরণীয়। ব্রেশ, ব্রেশ। এযাবৎ 'খুড়ো'-র খুঁটিনাটি ছোটো ছোটো প্রাগৈতিহাসিকতাপ্রাপ্ত অভ্যেস/ভাষা/অলঙ্কার-প্রয়োগ, ইত্যাদির অজস্র অনুকরণের বহরকে গোনার কষ্ট না করে এই নব-সংযোজিত অনুকরণীয় বিষয়ের পালক লাগানো টুপিটি শ্রদ্ধায় খুলে অভিবাদন জানালাম।
