    ২০০০ খৃষ্টপূর্বাব্দে সুমেরিয়ানরা লিখতে শিখেছিল। বৈদিক হিন্দুরা লিখতে পর্যন্ত জানত না। কোন লিপিও ছিল না আদি সংস্কৃতের। বৌদ্ধরা এসে প্রথম লেখা লেখি স্ক্রিপ্ট চালু করে।

    প্রাচীন ভারতের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় গুলি সব বৌদ্ধদের। আয়ুর্বেদ, বিজ্ঞান, গণিতের চর্চাও মূলত বৌদ্ধ পন্ডিতদের। গণিতজ্ঞের মধ্যে দুএকজন বৈদিকের সন্ধান পাওয়া যায়।

    হিন্দু ধর্মের উচ্চ দার্শনিক চিন্তা একমাত্র উপনিষদে। সেটাও আধুনিক গবেষকদের মতে বৌদ্ধ এবং গ্রীক দর্শন প্রভাবিত। তাছাড়া উপনিষদ কোনদিন কল্কে পায় নি। ভাগবদ গীতার উল্লেখ খুব বেশী প্রাচীন গ্রন্থে নেই। মুলত হিন্দু জাতীয়তাবাদের জন্য উনবিংশ শতাব্দিতে গীতাকে সামনে আনা হয়-যেহেতু গীতার কিছু ইন্টেলেকচুয়াল ভ্যালু আছে।

    চীন বিশ্বকে দিয়েছে কাগজ, কলম, বন্দুক, গানপাউডার-আরো অনেক প্রযুক্তি। গণিতে ভারতের একমাত্র মৌলিক অবদান শুন্য এবং দশমিক পদ্ধতি।

    মিশরীয়, গ্রীস, রোমান, ক্যাথ্রিজ, চীন, মেসোপটেমিয়া-ইত্যাদি প্রাচীন সভ্যতাগুলির সাথে তুলনা করলে দেখা যাবে হিন্দুরা অনেক পিছিয়ে ছিল বিজ্ঞান এবং প্রযুক্তির চর্চায়।

    রাজনৈতিক দর্শনের চর্চায় একমাত্র পাতে দেওয়ার মতন গ্রন্থ কৌটিল্যের অর্থশাস্ত্র। সেটাও চীনের অবদানের কাছে কিছুই না। চীনে কনফুসিশাস, সান জু, লাউজি ইত্যাদি অসংখ্য রাজনৈতিজ্ঞ এসেছেন-যারা রাজনৈতিক দর্শনে বিরাট অবদান রেখেছেন। মিলিটারী স্ট্রাটেজি এবং দর্শনে চাইনিজরা যা অবদান রেখেছে-ভারতের অবদান তার তুলনায় সম্পূর্ন শুন্য।

    আমি যেটুকু ইতিহাস ঘেঁটেছি নানা দেশের-তাতে আমার কাছে পরিস্কার হিন্দুরা অন্যান্য সভ্যতার থেকে অনেক পিছিয়ে ছিল- কেউ যদি প্রাচীন হিন্দু সভ্যতা নিয়ে গর্ব করে থাকে- সে কিসের জন্য গর্ববোধ করছে আমার কাছে খুব পরিস্কার না। যেটুকু গৌরবের-প্রায় সবটাই বৌদ্ধভারতের।

    যা বুঝেছি-হিন্দুরা সেকালেও অশিক্ষিত এবং পিছিয়ে থাকা একটি জাতিগোষ্টি ছিল। ইংরেজরা আসাতে এদের মধ্যে একটি শ্রেনী দ্রুত পাশ্চাত্য শিক্ষা লাভ করে, কিছুটা লিব্যারাল এবং আধুনিক হয়। কিন্ত হিন্দুদের অধিকাংশই যে তিমিরে ছিল- আজও বেসিক্যালি তাই আছে। রাজনৈতিক ক্ষমতা হাতে পাওয়াতে এখন জংলিপনা আরো বেড়েছে।

    ইটি আমার খুব ফেবারিট থিউরী। এইটা নিয়েই একটি নাতিদীর্ঘ অপিচ খুবই গভীর প্রবন্ধ লিখবার তালে ছিলাম। গ্যালো।

    সত্যি এরকম। ভারতে বৌদ্ধ যুগ শেষ হয়ে ব্রাহ্মণ্য যুগ এলো তো ডার্ক এজ শুরু হয়ে গেলো। পটাপট নগরগুলি লোপ পেলো। মেয়েরা অন্তরীন হলো। দেশ থেকে প্রাকৃত চর্চা বন্ধ হয়ে সংস্কৃত জারী হোলো। সে ও খুব রেস্টির্কটেড এন্ট্রী। বাউন ঠাকুর ছাড়া কেউ লিখতে পড়তে পারবে না। প্রেকটিকেলি লেখাপড়াটাই আম জনতার থেকে উঠে গেলো।কাস্টের নাগপাশে একেবারে চেপ্টে চুপ্টে দমবন্ধ অবস্থা।

    উদিকে রোমান সাম্রাজ্যের পতনের পর ইন্ডিয়ার ফরেন ট্রেডও বেসামাল। বৌদ্ধ ও জৈনরা সব কারীগড়ী গিল্ডকে অর্থ সাহায্য করতো। সেগুলো ও ডকে উঠলো। একেবারে সার্বিক পতন।

    সেই যে পতনের শুরু হয়,আর শেষ হলো না। মুঘল আমলে একটু হেঁচকি উঠেছিলো বলা যায়।আর শেষবারের মতন হলো রেনেসাঁস - যেটা বাংলায় শুরু হয়েছিলো।

    তবে এই লরেন যুগে আবার কী হয় কে বলতে পারে?

    Sometime I wonder how deep our ancestors went to understand life and leaving creatures around them and how possibly we could cut it off from our mainstream and make this as a subject of mockery everywhere, and don’t even hesitate to join others to celebrate that mockery.

    We believe in modern science, though hardly we came across any personal observation but we believe in atom, electron, proton neutron and other particles as the core in diversity of material world, behind a piece of diamond and my laptop same basic particles are gathered. Which is so difficult to comprehend but we accept. Even we didn’t stop over there we believe in string theory to explain energy and matters with same set of principle, but we don’t believe to our ancestor.

    Similarly, our ancestor went to very core of leaving being and try to identify commonalities and what gives them diversity, their object of study was all leaving beings , individually and collectively, even whatever is happening around the society, in family and most importantly inside their mind and also different religious practices. Then they come up with the concept of atma, paramatma and maya….

    Today we’ll try to understand how our ancestor took ‘Peace’ as a subject of discussion and practice. I think very few people will hesitate to appreciate the amazing display of what science and technology can do in the 21st century. This advancement has offered so much luxury and comforts on wish, more importantly which is available to common people was never possible for humanity before, even after keeping in mind the vast inequality of resource and wealth distribution of the current time also. Even after that we can’t tell, we live more peacefully ever before individually and collectively. On the contrary, in today’s world Peace and Mirage sounds so similar to humanity as never before. Quite often we blame the technological advancements itself for this, and left no stone un turn to capture the golden word peace, but yet we couldn’t find any magic button to embrace peace.

    But there is no absence of effort and initiatives to bring peace from every part of society, every corner of the world, in all level and capacities among humanity, but nothing seems working as expected. Most of the efforts sound like, as if we are putting some stone inside an empty mud pot and then shake it vigorously and then telling peace peace and peace, not only the display of the effort appearing and making the ambience very peaceful but also not gaining any ground on the way of the peace its targeting at. More often, it is seriously doubtful the performer of this action gains any peace in mind from this action.

    This modern world believe in peace, in equal rights for everybody,…uttering any word which doesn’t go along with the word peace and equality is a public crime......will be criticized immediately and won’t go un-condemned socially. From State leaders of every States on the political map of the world, to the beauty pageant runner, business community, corporate leaders, singers, artistes, even all religious leaders everybody is working hard with a single objective the world peace! Even they all claim , they don’t hesitate to sacrifice their personal peace to achieve world peace. But all these hard works are going into vein. The poets, after loosing hope from the world around them, ‘Imagine A day’ and hope everybody will join with their dream, but still peace appears unachievable.

    Peace was a very important quest of the life for our ancestor also, but they took this in such a level which modern world could even come closer in their imagination. Over here this is an attempt to make sense of their actions, what they have reflected long long time ago to reach the Holly Grail of peace, which apparently seems some stupid deeds from the school of thought process of the modern world.

    To them peace was never a public property or community property not even a family property it is the most precious individual property to earn. They are very self-centered in the matter of peace. All other groups were standing only at the receiver end of the fruit of action of a mind which is at a peaceful state, and others get benefit of this glow depending upon their distance from the light but if it at all ignites it will be at personal level not as a global phenomenon. So its meaningless to work hard for world peace. If individuals are in peace they will generated peace around him/herself and this will be cascaded, that is the only way to spread peace for them. Being world peaceful is just a natural outcome cannot be a goal.

    When they started investigating they found an interesting particle present every time when a mind reaches in a state of peace. First it gets a state of completeness, content feeling then peace arrives. So they concluded this completeness sense is the key factor to peace. This sense of completeness may appear from infinitely different possible accomplishment for an individual at a particular point of time but the bull eye is not different, mind reaches a sense of fullness at the time of peace. So this is the key determining factor whether a mind is in peace or not ?

    If that is the case satisfying mind with what it needs should be the golden key to open the door for peace. Now our normal logic says if the flow of resource matches with the demand, mind can easily generate content feeling, and the state of peaceful mind will be very much in our reach. Here they found something apparently unbelievable the relation between psychological supply and demand is not an addition and subtraction problem, it appears more like numerator and denominator. So in spite of concentrating on the numerator if we focus on the denominator and attempt to keep it down, whatever little we can put in numerator, mind will feel plenty and it can reach the state of content and importantly it can stay in peace.

    At this very point peace effort between modern world and their world took a radical diversion. In today’s world belief : Abandons bring peace, so we are trying to generate more and more resource to spread among unfortunates and attempting to achieve world peace. On the other hand they tried to gain control on their very own mind from generating more and more needs in name of freewill to achieve peace. And more importantly they didn’t take this as a message to pass on to others to achieve world peace but they tried to practice this to their very own life and what they wanted to pass on is only the glow come out as action from them when they achieve a peaceful state of mind.

    So we need to tame down, or discourage our mind to discover gaps or sense of incompleteness, no matter whatever is the urge spawning them, from a very selfish need to so called social welfare or any absolute selfless act. Allowing it to grow without any break does always adversely impact peace individually and collectively. But that doesn’t reduce the importance and necessity and the greatness of the selfless actions to the humanity but if we try to justify this action in name of peace that won’t be correct. Our modern concept of development may not go in line with this, but we all will agree simply by increasing number of Nobel peace prize or amount will not have any contribution to the real world peace. In other word any form of “Greed is not good” for peace , no matter whatever dynamism it can bring to the society, it cannot bring peace.

    Probably we could stop over here covering enough about peace but our ancestor went much deeper than this. Earlier we discussed, their message for peace was very personal but that doesn’t mean they have any less Emotional Quotient, in management terminology. If they come across somebody who lost his/her peace of mind, they were equally moved as we do for our friends and relatives. They also get the same pain as we get today, what we call compassion today.

    Normally what we try to do at that situation ? if providing the resource to the individual is out of our scope or capacity, we try to ease him by giving example from our own life and our method of resolving the situation, but almost at every attempt, it fails. Very basic reason is the gap or emptiness which took away peace from him/her, spawn from very uniquely clustered needs, with so much diversity of matrix there is no universal tool to ease a turbulent mind….or is there ?

    They figured out music or sound has tremendous impact in mind, right sound , right vibration, like ringing a heavy bell, can effect mood to such extend no other senses can do. So they created some shlokas by carefully selecting and sewing sounds, which can generate a feeling of completeness at any mind at any state. And that was their only direct effort of bringing peace in others mind. Not only the sound but also the literal meaning of those shlokas are also very important, reminding or exalt the inherit completeness of every life form, in other word true universal completeness.
    I’ll conclude my writing with one of such shloka :

    ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदम् पूर्णात् पूर्णमुदच्यते |
    पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ||
    ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ||

    Om Poornamadah, Poornamidam
    Poornaad Poornamudachyate;
    Poornasya Poornamaadaaya
    Poornamevaavashisyate
    Om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti !

    The invisible is full;
    The visible, too, is full.
    From the full, the full having come;
    The full remains the same.

    - Om, whatever we are seeing ( here seeing may not be very correct word, it is not what we are seeing outside, it is something what we see as me) is complete, whatever is beyond of our comprehension ( what people describe as God) is also complete, From that completeness only this completeness appeared.This completeness is like infinity in mathematical concept, no matter whatever way we distribute it, only completeness remains. And then finally it reminds..
    Om, Peace peace peace

    Is there something else more rational or logical and truly universal can be done in the aspect of peace ? So can we tell our ancestors were, what do we call ourselves ……smart!

    গ্রীকরা ভারতে আসার আগে হিন্দুদের মধ্যে কি মুর্তি পুজা প্রচলন ছিলো এরকম কোনো প্রমান পাওয়া গেছে কি? গ্রীকরা আসার আগে কোনো বুদ্ধ মুর্তি পাওয়া যায় নি--এটা বোধ হয় ফ্যাক্ট।

    বেদ বা রামায়নে কি কোনো মুর্তি পুজার রেফারেন্স আছে?

  • প্রাচীন গ্রীসে তো ডাইনে বাঁয়ে মন্দির। কিন্তু তার আগে অন্যত্র? মিশরেও মনে হয় মন্দির ছিল নানা দেবদেবীর। আর ঐ মেসোপ্টেমিয়ার জিগ্গুরাত গুলো? ওগুলো কি মন্দির?
    আমাদের হরপ্পা মহেঞ্জোদাড়োতে মন্দির ছিল না?

    কিন্তু রামায়নে মনে করতে পারছি না যে রামবাবু মন্দিরে ঢুকে বিগ্রহের সামনে পুজা দিচ্ছেন। দেবতা ভরপুর ছিলো, অগ্নি, বায়ু, ইন্দ্র সেই বেদ থেকে । কিন্তু মন্দির বা মুর্তি পুজা ছিলো না। অথচ সমসাময়িক সব সভ্যতায় দুই-ঈ বহুল ভাবে ছিলো। কিন্তু পরবর্ত্তি কালে সর্বত্র মুর্তি পুজা উঠে গেলো--শুধু এদেশেই রয়ে গেলো----অদ্ভুত লাগে না।

    বহু ইশ্বর থেকে আব্রাহমিক এক্শ্বরের আবির্ভাবেরো সোসাল ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ডটা ঠিক পরিস্কার নয়। বহু থেকে এক ঈশ্বরের কনসেপ্ট এ আসার প্রয়োজন কেনো এসেছিলো? রোমানদের ক্ষেত্রে তবু কিছু ব্যাখ্যা আছে। আমি বলছিলাম তারও আগে জিউ দের হাত ধরে আব্রাহমিক একেশ্বরবাদের সাফল্যের কথা।

  • আর্যরা তো আগে নোমাড ছিল। তাই মন্দির বানিএ পুজো করার টাইম বিশেষ ছিল মনে হয় না। তাই ঐ আগুন জ্বেলে টেম্পোরারি যা হয়।
    আর ইন্ডাস ভ্যালি সিভিলইজেশানে এখনো অব্দি কোনো মন্দির টাইপ স্ট্রাকচার পাওয়া যায় নি।
